First Registration of a Fishing Craft and Renewals

Qualification Criteria

  • Being a local fishing craft
  • Vessel’s Insurance certificate to prove that the vessel is insured
  • The boat should be inspected and approved by the Marine engineer assitant
  • Documents to prove ownership

Note: If qualification requirements are not met, request for registering fishing craft will to be rejected.

Support Documents Required
Approval letter from the Marine Engineer assistant
Bills relating to the purchase pf the engine and craft

Submission Procedure
Step 1: Obtain the application form for registration of Fishing Boat and Owner from the District Fisheries Office
Step 2: Submit the filled application and support documents to the Area Fisheries Inspector.

Step 1: Obtain the application from the Fisheries inspector complete it & hand it over back to him
Step 2: Fisheries inspector inspects the boat and the application form
Step 3: If the eligibility criteria is not fulfilled the application will be rejected/if eligible, registration fee is charged and a receipt is issued
Step 4: Fisheries inspector send the application and relevant documents along with recommendations to the assistant District Director.
Step 5: Assistant Director districts sends the application along with recommendations to the director general.
Step 6: Director general registers the craft and issues a registration book

Note: The registrationbook needs to be submitted to the area fisheries inspector and renewed annually.

Costs Related to the Service

Cost: No cost related on obtaining the application form

Fee: The fee of registering fishing vessels varies according to the size of the vessel. The cost factors are shown in the table below.

Size of Vessel First registration fee Renewal Fee
Over 32ft (with inboard engine) Rs.500/= Rs. 250/=
32ft-28ft (with inboard engine) Rs. 250/= Rs. 150/=
28ft or less (with outboard engine) Rs. 100/= Rs. 50/=
Non mechanized crafts Rs. 15/= Rs. 10/=

Penalties : No penalties involved except The charge obtained for the years the vessel was not registered.

Surcharge : There are no surcharges related to registration of a fishing vessel
